Weather conditions: |
| Typical spring condition is flood of the river Anadyr. The water level rose at least 2 m (or the area under water broadens) and big areas were flooded. The water is back to 'normal' about beginning of July.

Tree-nesting birds are relatively safe for as long as the plain is flooded - at least if the ground dwelling predators are concerned (bear, wolverine). After the water retrieves, we encountered very high predation rate in nests of Magpie, Raven and Goshawk, probably by wolverines. The fresh green grass appearing after the flood is gone, seems to provide good nurture for Wigeons and Geese. Apart from one bear and traces of wolf, no mammalian predators were seen. Peregrine, Goshawk, White-tailed Eagle and one Merlin represented raptors. Among waterfowl, European Wigeon, Pintail and Greater Scaup were most common species. White-fronted Geese were regular, some Been Geese were seen. According to the local fishermen, the numbers of ducks here have decreased immensely during the last 10 years.

Summary
of fauna studies: |
| The main purpose of our expedition was radio tracking of Goshawk. Unfortunately the work was inhibited by the lack of fuel for the boats. However, one male could be tracked during the nesting and after the loss of brood.
